What Would Your Baseball Intro Song Be?

During the MLB playoffs, I started thinking about the players' "walk-up songs".
That's the song played by the ballpark while a player is walking to the plate or the pitcher's mound, and I believe each guy gets to pick their own tune.

Some current players have pretty awesome songs, as shown in this BleacherReport list.
Pretty cool that James Shields had Rammstein and then went to Kid Cudi, and Nyjer Morgan uses a Michael Jackson song, and Lance Berkman has Johnny Cash to get amped up.
Closers appear to have the best selections, including Mariano Rivera with Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

With the World Series starting tonight between the St Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox, we'll get to hear on the biggest stage which songs the players on this year's two best teams choose.

So I started wondering, which song would I select for myself?
And what song would my friends and family choose?

I had to go with "Fuel" by Metallica. Such a good pump-up song!

Here are some of the responses I got from friends when I asked on a Facebook post:

Heidi:
Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll

Stanley:
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

Laurie:
The Foundations - Build Me Up Buttercup
Everybody sing along!

Dan:
Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
Maybe Dan gets hit by a lot of pitches?

Lucy:
Mary J. Blige - Work That

Jody:
Mary J. Blige - Grown Woman
Bringing her big-girl bat to the plate.
Note: I incorrectly had Beyonce's 'Grown Woman' here before. My bad.

Scott:
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Does this remind anyone else of the start of Jazz games?

Alison:
The Killers - Move Away

Troy:
Neil Diamond & Barbra Streisand - You Don't Bring Me Flowers
Troy specializes in power bunting.

Blythe:
Guns 'n' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Like a wild beast in the batter's box.

And last but certainly not least,

Tommy:
Lion King - Circle of Life
Pretty sure the crowd would always go wild for this one.

I think some of these suggestions were in jest, but I had to share them anyway since they're funny.

Most of them would certainly be good walk-up songs, and they'd get the batter pumped up.
And I love seeing the personality of the person reflected in what they chose.

What song would you pick?

So let's play ball! Batter up!

Delightful Disneyland and Dodger Days

Disneyland. It's the happiest place on earth.
So we took our family vacation on the road to Anaheim, CA, for a couple days of fun.

Once again, this post will be mostly pictures. Hope you're ok with that.

Day 1: Disneyland
Breezy's first roller coaster ride. Like a champ!
Zonks' first roller coaster ride. Like a boss!
Meeting the big cheese.
With the first lady.
G-unit is an official Jedi padawan. Even defeated Darth Maul.
So excited to meet their favorite!
They tried so hard. Guess they're princesses, not kings.

Day 2: (Mostly) California Adventure
My #carouselfie shot. Yep, that's a thing now.

Day 3: Both parks
A Mickey beignet? Yes, please!
My sister's friend Jillian was super cool, and doesn't she look like Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones?
Cruella de Vil was a total crack-up.
Caught up with some friends in Downtown Disney.

Day 4: Huntington Beach and the Dodgers game
Our hardcore surfer dudes.
Great game! Dodgers beat the Giants in extra innings.

After such an action-packed adventure, I only have one question:
Is it too early to start planning our next family trip?

Let's All "Bee" Friends

I love baseball games... on a warm Saturday night... with lots of friends.

We organized a group of friends to attend the SL Bees game, and it was a very good time.

We sat on the lawn by right field, and it was a good spot. Not too blinded by the sun, and we had a clear view of the whole field. Little by little, we kind of expanded our property holdings as other fans left and more of ours showed up haha

We ate hot dogs and drank water and a little Diet Coke, and enjoyed socializing on the grass.

Another bonus of our lawn seats was not having to move to watch the fireworks after the game.
Yep, that's right. After the game, they even had fireworks (which was probably the main reason some of the friends came at all - true story).

Solid warm-up for the upcoming 4th of July!
(And 24th of July, for all my fellow Utahns, of course.)

Oh yeah, and it doesn't hurt that the Bees hit a grand slam and won, either!

Knuckeball Catcher Mitts, or Hand Sombreros?

Anybody else notice how ridiculously large the catcher mitt was tonight when R.A. Dickey pitched in the MLB All-Star Game? Honestly, it was like Carlos Ruiz had a modified sombrero on his hand.

This pic shows how a regular catcher mitt compares to a knuckeballer catcher mitt.

I've never tried to catch a knuckleball, so it must be necessary.

But it still seems a bit ridiculous.

Not-Flat Stanley Visits DC

My buddy Stanley had a work retreat out here in DC for a couple days, and he was able to finagle it so that he could work from their DC office the next week. Score!

Always good spending time with him and catching up, and we took advantage of some good ol' DC fun.

Medieval Madness
One of my friends had worked here and said it was a fun dinner theater, so I wanted to go. About 6 months ago, I'd even bought a Groupon for 4 people. Now it was about to expire, and I figured who better to take than Stanley?
To friends!
We played good king, bad king. Guess who was which.
We convinced our friends Milan [check out her blog] and Meg to join us. Not sure who was the luckiest in that scenario, because look how pretty and awesome they are.
Girls worth fighting for.
Acting like the princesses they are.
The show was lots of fun, and I even got to yell out, "Wench, bring me more ale!" Ok, I didn't say ale. I said Sprite. And no, I wasn't being disrespectful. That is actually what the serving wench told us to yell out to get her attention.

Meg had been to Medieval Times before and said that the food at Medieval Madness was vastly superior. The meat was quite tasty, and there was lots of it. Definitely not a place for vegetarians...

Also, besides the witty jokes and semi-crass songs and elaborate costumes, the folks at Medieval Madness treated us to a sword fight. Very cool. Between the food and sword fight, it was easily worth the price.
This romance lasted about 12 hours, I think.
Right up until he mentioned his other job at Home Depot.
Matchbox and Ted's Bulletin
We went to brunch one day that Stanley was here, and it just so happened that Milan and Meg joined us again. I swear, we didn't spend all week as a friends foursome, even though that would have rocked.
GQ called, your photo shoot appointment is set.
A virgin Bloody Mary to start the day off right.
Milan likes her drinks fruity and uber-girly.
So authoritative.
After our scrumptious brunch, we needed to satisfy the sweet tooth. Fortunately, Milan knew about the homemade pop tarts at Ted's Bulletin a few doors down. Go get one. You won't be disappointed.
Meg loves showing off her blueberry pop tart and ring.
Yes, that's a bacon and peanut butter poptart.
It's even more delicious than it sounds.
Nationals v Phillies
As baseball fans, it was only appropriate that Stanley and I do our best to get to a game while he was in town. Bryce Harper was recently called up to the majors, and Steven Strasburg was on the mound, so you know we had to see the Nats in action.
Beautiful evening to spend at the ballpark with a best friend
While Bryce Harper didn't have a great night at the plate, we were both impressed with his hustle. I even got our whole section to clap for him after he attempted (unsuccessfully) to run down a foul ball. He drew two walks and did a great job defending the plate, though; Stanley and I estimated that the opposing pitcher spent 1/3 of his pitches on Harper. That's impressive work.

The trip was so much fun, and you are certainly welcome back in DC anytime, Stanley! Or maybe next time I'll come out to LA and we'll entertain ourselves in your neck of the woods.
