Knuckeball Catcher Mitts, or Hand Sombreros?

Anybody else notice how ridiculously large the catcher mitt was tonight when R.A. Dickey pitched in the MLB All-Star Game? Honestly, it was like Carlos Ruiz had a modified sombrero on his hand.

This pic shows how a regular catcher mitt compares to a knuckeballer catcher mitt.

I've never tried to catch a knuckleball, so it must be necessary.

But it still seems a bit ridiculous.
