I'm a Freak. I'm a Weirdo. [Vibram FiveFingers]

I now own Vibram FiveFingers shoes.
Don't judge.

Even though I used to.

Alright, go ahead and judge.

I've run a few times in my new KSO's, and there's definitely a difference.
Stabilizing muscles are getting used that aren't accustomed to being used while running.
This is a good thing, as I hope it will strengthen more of my leg and make me less susceptible to injury.

Don't worry, I'm easing into them, as I was instructed to do.

Honestly, I think my body will adapt to them long before my brain or pride does.

  1. I'm interested to hear how you feel about them in a few weeks. Do you run outside with them? I've been considering getting some (wish they didn't look so goofy) - especially after reading Born to Run. I think we've been doing it all wrong!

  2. I admit it. I am TOTALLY judging you. I have heard a lot of serious runners say they are TERRIBLE for you, and make you even MORE injury prone. But I'll be interested to hear how you like them after you've used them for a while.

  3. I have run outside a few times in them, and they've been great. My runs have been less than a mile, and even that left me a little sore (not structural pain, just muscle strengthening).

From what I understand, most injuries from Vibrams are due to going long distances or fast pace too quickly, without a proper adjustment period.

I'll keep you both posted on my progress!

  4. I loved mine. My mutant big toe kept breaking through the toe pocket, so I've since had to switch to the also-minimalist-but-more-conventional-looking Merrell Trail Glove. Since going to Vibrams/Merrells my ITB pain associated with running has disappeared. I am a believer.

  5. That's great to hear it's cured your ITB issues, Grayden! So far I've liked mine and haven't had any issues, as I've been gradually building up to faster pace and longer distances.
