Retiring My Favorite Jeans

Does everyone have a favorite pair of jeans?

Well I do.
Or perhaps I should say "I did."

Because they have reached that sad point of needing to be retired.

They'd reached that perfect level of comfort, as you can see by the worn marks from my cell phone (left leg) and keys (right leg) and served me well for quite some time.

The first time they almost died, I asked my mom to patch up the spot, and they survived another year or so. That was a tear under the leg, and wasn't really visible after she did her handiwork.

The death blow was dealt by a small worn-through spot right in the front. Cant' really patch that up, and can't hide it. So I think they've run their course.

Since they're beat up, I don't think it'd be appropriate to give them to DI or Salvation Army or any place like that. I was going to just chuck them, but that seems like a terrible waste.

Looks like there are some interesting recycled denim Pinterest ideas, but I'm not too crafty when it comes to fabrics and sewing...

How should I use them? Anybody have a viable suggestion?

  1. Let Mom give it a go before you chuck them. She patched about the same spot in a pair of my jeans a few weeks ago, and I couldn't even figure out where the spot was when she gave them back. She's a miracle worker, our mom.

Then again, new jeans can be nice.

Have you thought about making another quilt? The jeans would make for some cool quilt fabric...

    1. Mom is a miracle worker; I may check with her before doing any cutting.
Already bought a couple new pairs of jeans. Might take a bit to break them in, but at least they aren't holey (sp?).
Hmm, I haven't considered doing another quilt, but that's not a bad idea...

  2. I think you should frame a Patch of your jeans and label it "Billy." Then hang it up on your wall. When people ask about it, just respond, "Oh, she's not my lover."

    1. You've got a strange mind, Larissa... which might be why you get along with Megan and I so famously haha. This is in strong contention for what I'll do, just because I kinda want to see peoples' reactions.

  3. If you want to actually wear them again, there are iron-on patches you can buy to fix the holes. I've done with with small holes and weak spots in clothes before. A fabric store might carry them, but I'm not exactly sure about the best place to find them! The ones I have were given to me :)

    1. Sweet! That's a great idea, Carla! There are a few fabric/sewing stores in the Salt Lake area, so I'll look into the iron-on patches.

  4. What did you end up deciding, Aaron? I'm kinda hoping you went with Larissa's idea...

    1. So far I haven't done anything on it. The jeans are just sitting in my dresser until I make a decision and feel crafty :)
