DBD 2009: Halloween Edition

Dutch Bike Dutch (DBD) has been going on for several years, and I'm glad to say I've been a participant on multiple occasions (here's one). Since this ride was held on Halloween, we brought our costumes along for added entertainment of the Amish who'd see us out on the roads. I was very excited that my brother Pete came over to Lancaster from Philly, as I'd thought the next time I'd see would be Thanksgiving. There were rides of 15, 20, 30, 50, and 60 miles, and we chose to go 30. As we rode along, we saw beautiful rolling hills, quaint Amish farms, several horse-and-buggies, a whole bunch of turkeys that will be on dinner tables on the fourth Thursday of November, cud-chewing cows, an Amish schoolhouse, and a couple graveyards. By the end of the ride, we were all pretty tuckered out, but it was a good tired. The kind that you're grateful for, ya know? Oh, and Pete and I had a bonus! We ended up getting the tongue-in-cheek first and second prizes for "sexiest costumes".To replenish/replace/over-replace the calories we'd burned, everybody went to a little restaurant called the Udder Choice that has decent food and above-average ice cream and sundaes. We ate and chatted probably longer than we should have, but I didn't mind. Our group was great and we had fun chatting it up.

What a great Halloween and a great way to celebrate prior to heading home to DC for more celebrating!

  1. For some reason, it took me a minute to realize that Robin Hood was Pete, even though you said in your post that it is Pete. You two and your tights! No wonder you won the "sexiest costume" prizes!
