Avoiding the Busy Season Blues

My friend Nate asked me over IM yesterday if I had the "busy season blues" yet. I hadn't heard of this, and maybe that's because he invented the term, but I believe he's referring to getting depressed about working grueling 12-13 hour days and not having any time to exercise, play, socialize, run necessary errands, etc.

Fortunately, I can say that (so far, anyway) I haven't been too badly hit by busy season. We've put in a few late nights, but for the most part it has just been an extra hour or two each night. That translates into cutting out my runs in the evening. A sad thing, and one that will eventually drive me batty, but I've begun going to bed earlier, and that has prevented me from getting grumpy about not running.

For those that don't know, I need at least two of the following three things to keep from getting cranky: exercise, food, and adequate sleep. I can maybe go a few days or a week on just one, but then you'd better be careful if I don't get back on track :)

Okay, I'm babbling. I'll stop. Maybe I'm working too much. Long story short: Working a lot, haven't lost my mind yet. Later.

  1. As you have noticed, I normally do not post comments on your blog, although I FAITHFULLY read it. However, we have been avoiding the busy season blues for a little too long now. Thank you, Come again.
